2nd International Postgraduate Conference on Language, Literature and International Studies, University of Central Lancashire, UK
Date: Tuesday 12th May 2015
Location: University of Central Lancashire, Preston City Campus PR1 2HE
Keynote Speaker: Professor James Paul Gee (Arizona State University, USA)

The School of Language, Literature and International Studies (SoLLIS) at the University of Central Lancashire is hosting its 2nd International Postgraduate Conference. Postgraduate students from any institution are invited to submit proposals. The conference covers a wide range of topics including language teaching, applied linguistics, intercultural communication, literature, creative writing, sign language and deaf studies, and area studies. The aim of the conference is to provide postgraduate students with an opportunity to present their research, to network with peers, and to receive valuable feedback on their work.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Professor James Paul Gee from Arizona State University. Professor Gee is widely recognised as a leading academic whose work has shaped the fields of discourse analysis, sociolinguistics, new literacy studies, and the use of digital technologies in learning.

Abstracts between 250 - 300 words are required for paper and poster presentations. Please submit them by e-mail to Dr Michael Thomas ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) by the 20th of March 2015, including your full name, programme, year of study and institution.

Undergraduates, especially those thinking of postgraduate study, are also very welcome to attend. UCLan course Leaders will be on hand to discuss the taught and research postgraduate degrees that SoLLIS offers.

A conference programme will be published in late April. The conference is free for presenters and audience members, but places are limited. Please contact [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> to reserve a place in advance.

The Future of Learning: Critical Perspectives on Higher Education in the Digital Age
Date: Wednesday 13th May 2015
Time: 10:00am to 16:00
Location: Preston City Campus, PR1 2HE

Professor James Paul Gee will be visiting the University of Central Lancashire as part of its Distinguished Speaker Programme between 11-13th May 2015. A symposium will take place on 13th May as below which will be of interest to teachers and researchers working in discourse analysis, applied linguistics, situated learning, literacy studies, game-based learning and computer-assisted learning in general.
