New BYOD Manager for SmartClass+ Language Labs Montréal, Canada: November 20, 2013 – Robotel Inc. has released SmartClass+ BYOD Manager, a class management utility for the SmartClass+ language learning platform that connects tablet-equipped students with their live class sessions and their self-study exercises. Historically, language labs have required student stations to be associated with a single teacher station in a fixed configuration, but the SmartClass+ BYOD Manager enables students to dynamically connect to any live class, independent of its location or teacher. This functionality is essential for schools supporting one-to-one programs with tablets, (iPads, Androids, or Windows). BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) In principle, BYOD implies that student workstations are portable devices – like iPads – that students carry from class-to-class. A growing number of schools are migrating to one-to-one programs, where students are issued their own device when they register for their first semester. Students then continue using this device for the duration of their enrollment at the school. With BYOD, students are responsible for keeping their own devices in good condition. Class Management In a nutshell, any time a teacher initiates a live class session, (e.g. Spanish 101), this session is tracked by the BYOD Manager. Any time a student elects to join a live class, the BYOD Manager verifies the student’s login credentials and then provides the student with a list of live class sessions in progress for all of the classes for which that student is a member. Normally this will be a single class, but should there be multiple class sessions available, students can choose their session based on course/class name and teacher name. Additionally, is it now practical for teachers to bring their own devices, (typically laptop computers), to class. This is extremely useful for schools that cannot dedicate a fixed room to their language classes, as teachers need not worry about having their colleagues inadvertently modify the configuration of a shared workstation. SmartClass+ BYOD Manager “The inherent portability of wireless devices like tablets means that language teachers and students need not be tethered to a specific location;” says Gerry Sullivan, Robotel’s Director of Marketing. “The new BYOD Manager utility now makes this portability practical in any language learning environment.” And Sullivan goes on to say; “We are not just talking about accessing a few simple lessons from a server. SmartClass+ BYOD supports both self-study and live class sessions with complete language lab functionality including student pairing, student recording, and even AP testing.” More Information about Robotel’s Classroom Management Systems For more information on Robotel’s classroom management solutions, visit the company web site www.robotel.com<http://www.robotel.com>, or contact Robotel at +1 (450) 680-1448 or (800) 480-1448.
