Just as a quick follow-up to Rod Edwards' response about using VLC... we use it on our dual-booted iMacs on both the Windows 7 and Lion operating systems, and it works great for both PAL format and region-coded discs. I've actually gotten our Institutional IT people to install VLC on all of the computers in teaching classrooms around campus, which then allows our professors to also play PAL and/or region-coded DVDs during classes.
