Hi, Sonja!
While it's more of a work-around than a solution, one thing works consistently on our MacBook Pros is to quit the default DVD Player app and then play the DVD with VLC Player. I assume it will work similarly on PCs, but we haven't had any need to try it, yet. VLC Player is available for free at videolan DOT org. . Again, it's not perfect, but it works and it's free.
