Having sent out pleas for help far and wide, I finally got someone with the patience to walk me step by step thru what I needed to do.

I used the technique of e-mailing the FMP file to myself. It turns out that, once you use your iPad to open your e-mail with an attachment, and you follow what seems like the obvious course of pressing the generic icon with the download arrow, and then you watch the progress bar fill up until the nice colorful file icon replaces the gray generic download icon, you're not done. While there is absolutely no intuitive reason whatsoever to just start touching the icon of the downloaded file, that's what you're supposed to do. Why in hell's name would anyone randomly think to do this, just off the top of their head? Anyway, once you touch it, you get a little pop-up menu that asks if you'd like to open it, and suggests a program (possibly more) that you could use to do so. Again, why in hell's name would I expect to be able to open a FileMaker file from within Mail? But that's what ya gotta do!

This iOS stuff is gonna take some getting used to.

Thanks for letting me bend your ears.

Grump grump grump.
