Good Morning-

Here is the line up of events happening at DCAL this week:

Inspiring Creativity: The Space for (Book) Arts in the Curriculum, 12:00pm - 1:15pm, Tuesday, October 18, 2016
Is there time and/or space for creativity in a 10-week Dartmouth term? Sarah M. Smith, Book Arts Workshop Special Instructor, has proven that there is. The strong faculty focus of this session will provide participants with ideas for bringing Book Arts into their classroom, supplementing research assignments with hands-on learning. This session is part of the Teaching Students Research series.
Lunch will be provided, please register for this discussion here: http://libcal.dartmouth.edu/event/2826006

Faculty Workshop: Perfect Group Projects, 12:40pm - 2:05pm, Wednesday, October 19, 2016
While “perfect” group projects might seem elusive, research has shown that groups can make better decisions than individuals, enhance learning, and contribute to psychological well-being of their members. Effective groups run the world; ineffective ones make us want to run out. How do we create group projects that lead to outcomes greater than the sum of the parts? How do we set up such projects and evaluate student work? How do we manage technology use throughout? Not least, how can we become better group members ourselves? This session, led by Speech faculty member Yana Grushina, will engage the participants with these challenges and reveal the opportunities of successful group projects through discussion of cutting edge group communication research, theory-based insights, and plentiful examples. This worship sponsored by the Institute for Writing and Rhetoric.
Lunch will be provided, please register for this workshop here: http://libcal.dartmouth.edu/event/2823690

Teaching Science Seminar: Articulating the Broader Impact of your research, 12:30pm - 1:30pm, Friday, October 21, 2016
Now more than ever, federal research agencies require applicants for grants to justify the broader impacts of their research. In this session, Lauren Provost, Director of the Office of Science and Technology Outreach, will provide new information on broader impacts and related requirements, some tips for addressing them, and web resources. You will find this helpful whether you’re just starting out or have written grants for years. TSS is a monthly conversation aimed at—but not limited to—faculty in the sciences.
Lunch will be provided at 12:15pm, please register for this seminar here: http://libcal.dartmouth.edu/event/2840014

Enjoy your week!
