THE WHITE RIBBON CAMPAIGN AT DARTMOUTH COLLEGE

The Men’s Project, and the Center for Women and Gender at Dartmouth College would like to invite you to take part in Dartmouth’s White Ribbon Campaign TODAY October 27th at the football game against Harvard (5:00 pm at the Football Stadium). To participate you need only to stop by the entrance and pick up a white ribbon. More information about the Men's Project as well as future opportunities with this organization will also be available.

The White Ribbon Campaign (WRC) is a worldwide effort of men ending violence, particularly violence against women. Wearing a white ribbon is a symbol of opposition to violence and a “personal pledge to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women and girls.”

The history of the WRC goes back to 1991 when several men in Canada recognized how important it is for men to speak out about violence against women. Thus, the goal of the campaign is ending violence against women in all of its forms. This goal, according to the WRC’s website, is accomplished in five ways:

• Challenging everyone to speak out, and think about their own beliefs, language and actions.

• Educating young people, especially young men and boys, on the issue through the educational resources.

• Raising public awareness of the issue.

• Working in partnership with women’s organizations, the corporate sector, the media and other partners to create a future with no violence against women.

• Supporting White Ribbon Campaigns around with our experience, resources and networks.
