Bear Island Design Assembly (August 31~September 7) Information Session, Tomorrow at 4pm, in the architecture studio (Room 242), of Visual Arts Center

A one-week gathering of Dartmouth and Middlebury students, with architects, professors, and design professionals, on Bear Island in Penobscot Bay, Maine. The assembly is hosted by Dartmouth alumnus Jonathan Marvel of Rogers Marvel Architects in New York, and Middlebury faculty John McLeod and Steve Kredell of McLeod Kredell Architects in Middlebury, VT.

BIDA participants share the rugged simplicity of island living while designing new solutions for basic human needs. BIDA uses Bear Island as a local laboratory for testing concepts and prototypes, while studying other islands in the bay for lessons about settlement patterns, land use, and living lightly on the land.

This conference serves in part as a research extension of the RMA and MKA firms, and students can consider it a professional externship as well as a complement to their academic training.

Mr. Marvel and Mr. McLeod are coming to talk about the program to the interested students. Pizzas will be served, so please come and enjoy!

Thanks,
