She's the First*{Dartmouth} invites you to make TIE-DYE T-SHIRTS and watch a screening of Shadya* to celebrate the DAY OF THE GIRL (Thursday, 10/11/12)
Where: Occom Commons
When: Tuesday 10/9 at 7:30pm
Why: To support women's empowerment!

10.11.12
The First UN International Day of the Girl
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do you support women's empowerment? Then
Wear TIE-DYE on October 11th, 2012
Why?
On the FIRST UN INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL, She's the First*{Dartmouth} is encouraging everyone to wear tie-dye to express their support for girls' empowerment.  StF*{Dartmouth} raises money to fund girls' education worldwide - we were inspired by our upcoming National Tie-Dye Cupcake Bakesale (November 12th-18th!) to use this colorful theme to unite our campus to support elevating the status of girls locally and globally.
Tie-Dye=Creativity & Collaboration, Excitement & Expression, Happiness & Hope
Remember how much fun you had during spirit week when everyone dressed up in high school? Let's get that same kind of support for girls' empowerment!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

What is the Day of the Girl?
In December 2011, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to establish
October 11th the “International Day of the Girl Child.” This day, the General Assembly noted, is
about “helping galvanize worldwide enthusiasm for goals to better girls’ lives, providing an
opportunity for them to show leadership and reach their full potential” (UN GA Resolution
12.9.11).
The International Day of the Girl honors and celebrates girls around the world – elevating the
status of girls in our local and global communities, and addressing key issues related to girls’
empowerment, leadership and success.
