Dear Dartmouth,

We do not support any position on any argument, but we support the rights of all arguments to be expressed openly.

In response to the op-ed published in The Dartmouth on February 2nd, we, the members of the Dartmouth Open Campus Coalition, stand in support with The Dartmouth and in support with the letters of solidarity with the Trips Directorate, with the exception of the calls to silence voices.

We invite people to publish counter-pieces regarding the op-ed. It is important to open dialogue, rather than shutting each other down. As our student policy reads: “the College both fosters and protects the rights of individuals to express dissent.”

The freedom of speech is a constitutionally protected human right that allows us to bring about change. This freedom cannot take sides. Building an inclusive community requires platforms open to all viewpoints.

If you would like to discuss this further, please email us at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
