TAKING A SCIENCE COURSE THIS FALL?

WOULD YOU LIKE TO LEARN NEW STRATEGIES FOR STUDYING IN STEM COURSES?

YOU WILL WANT TO MEET THE NEW TEACHING SCIENCE FELLOWS!

We are Joe Minichiello (Biology) and Isabella Caruso (Chemistry), both members of the Class of 2017 and this year's Teaching Science Fellows.

We partner with the faculty of introductory biology and chemistry classes to make them more accessible to all students, regardless of science background. We encourage and provide interactive learning opportunities in the context of traditionally lecture-based courses. As recent Dartmouth graduates, we are familiar not only with the most challenging aspects of these courses but also with student experiences and the college’s support systems.

Our work includes:

-One-on-one teaching

-Research-based study strategies

-Class material

-Exam/assignment feedback

-Facilitating evening and end-of-term review sessions

-Offering student-centered support

-Navigating Dartmouth/new situations

-Pre-health academics (Joe)

-Engineering academics (Isabella)

-Holistic approach to student success

-Gathering student feedback

-Integrating academics into the housing communities

This fall, we are working with Professors Roger Sloboda and Natasha Grotz in Bio 12 (Cell Biology) and Professor Michael Ragusa in Chem 5 (General Chemistry). However, working with specific classes is only one aspect of our job. We meet with all students who are interested in the sciences or currently taking any science class.

Additionally, Joe is living in one of the house communities as a Resident Fellow this year (Allen House). We will be planning programs in the house communities, so seek us out there if you want/need to chat about anything!

If you would like to discuss study strategies, course selection, or just want to stop by to meet us (please do!; our office is 123 Life Sciences Center), or e-mail one or both of us. Also check out and bookmark our new web site below for information about us and for study tips!

After working with the TSF, I finally started grasping whole concepts and learning where I could improve my study skills. − Danielle, Bio 13 I am really grateful ...
