Dear Dartmouth community,

We, the Inter-Sorority Council, would like to state our full support for the 2018 Trips Director, Assistant Director, and Directorate in general.

We do not feel the op-ed or its author deserve our acknowledgement. Instead, we would like to uplift and offer support to the parties that were harmed by the language used. People of color, women of color, and queer folk are systematically disadvantaged at institutions such as Dartmouth by many factors, both seen and unseen. Therefore, diverse representation is incredibly important in bodies such as Trips.

Additionally, we have full confidence that the process by which the Directorate was chosen selected the most qualified candidates and do not doubt that this group will provide the best possible Trips experience for the incoming class of 2022. Representation on Trips is and has always been important. We know that this Directorate represents many facets of the Dartmouth community and will work to do best by the varying identities found on our campus.

Lastly, we would like to acknowledge the work put in by of women of color, people of color, queer folk, and other marginalized identities on this campus that so often goes unrecognized. Although this may be an instance in which such opinions are at the forefront of campus conversation, marginalized identities are put in danger daily at Dartmouth. We hope that this leads to a wider discussion of why this happens and how we as a community may be able to prevent harmful dialogue, action, and thought in the future.

There is no place for racist or sexist language on Dartmouth’s campus, nor discriminatory and targeting language in general. As such we, the Inter-Sorority Council, will not stand for it. We stand with the Trips Directorate, with people of color, women of color, queer folk, and all marginalized or underrepresented identities on campus.

In solidarity,
The Inter-Sorority Council
