What is LAPS?

The Latin American Political Society is a student-run organization, dedicated to promoting discussion and raising awareness of Latin American Politics at Dartmouth.

Our events include forums and discussions among students, presentations to the Dartmouth community, and featured guest speakers.

What do we do?

- Presentations: With the guidance of the Executive Board, our officers and their teams organize presentations on various topics. Past presentations include: the emergence of the Brazilian economy, the implications of Venezuelan elections, and the evolution of the Mexican Drug War.

- Guest Speakers: We organize dinner discussions with Dartmouth professors and outside speakers. Past speakers have included Latin American expert, and Chair of the Government Department: John Carey.

- Fundraisers: Starting this term, we added the Humanitarian Committee, which will engage LAPS in fundraising activities for crises in Latin America.

Who can apply?

We are open to all Dartmouth students, regardless of class year, major or specific knowledge of Latin America. We seek people who are curious about Latin America, and willing to learn and grow with the organization.

We have openings for officer positions in the following committees:

- Internal Politics
- Economics
- International Relations
- Humanitarian

Officers will coordinate and organize an in-depth presentation with their team. Officers applying to the Humanitarian Committee will coordinate with the Marketing and Programming Executives to lead fundraisers and will have an end-of-term briefing.

Candidates may express interest for two positions. Applications are due next Friday (10/11) by 11:59 pm.

Best of luck!
LAPS.
