INTERESTED IN A RESEARCH INTERNSHIP IN PROMOTING HEALTH EQUITY DOMESTICALLY?

Dartmouth's Center for Health Equity at the Geisel School of Medicine will have 6 funded internship opportunities for this summer (end June through early August). Graduating seniors can apply! This project focuses on rural health in two Native American communities--the Little Earth of United Tribes in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the Penobscot Indian Nation in Old Town, Maine.

The Project: Our aim is to gain a comprehensive understanding of community wellness in both of these communities. Using information collected from photovoice and corresponding public forums, we aim to develop a culturally informed understanding that will guide the next steps to support healthy eating and active living.

Here's what Dartmouth students will do:

* Students will be trained to use photovoice, a qualitative, participatory, and visual approach to research that relies on community members to photograph their challenges, successes and observations about a specific problem.

* Once trained, students will teach youth and elders in these two tribal communities to use photovoice so they can think about, describe and communicate their barriers and facilitators of healthy eating and active living.

* Students will learn to analyze the data and help present findings to the community.

* Students will share their experiences through thought papers with the Dartmouth community

If you are interested in this funded opportunity please send an email to The Center for Health Equity <[log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>> indicating your interest and we will send you application details.
