Ledyard's annual winter break trip to Ecuador

featuring:

  *   Explorers Symposium featuring alumni who have led on National Geographic–sponsored expeditions and raced in the Olympics
  *   a panel on hydropower vs. conservation
  *   whitewater slalom and downriver races
  *   screening of a conservation film with the filmmaker himself
  *   and loads more!

Ledyard's 2015 winter break trip to the Rio Grande


FRIDAY, APRIL 20

  *   5–6pm — Rauner Archive Exhibit — Rauner Library
A public viewing of artifacts and documents from the founding of the Ledyard Canoe Club, including notable expeditions and competitions, curated by Jaime Eeg ’18, Rauner Fellow.

  *   6–7pm – A talk by James Zug ’91, John Ledyard biographer — Collis 101
Insight and stories on the life of John Ledyard, by the of author of The Life and Adventures of John Ledyard, the Man who Dreamed of Walking the World.

  *   7:30pm — Conservation on Tap — Sarner Underground
Featuring a short film by Ben Masters in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Wild & Scenic Rivers Act, followed by a discussion by the filmmaker himself. Ledyard alum Scott Lacy '13 will also present on his recent expedition: the first (and last) descent of the headwaters of the Blue Nile before the construction of a large dam. With pizza and craft beer and cider (21+).


SATURDAY, APRIL 21

  *   9am — Mascoma Slalom — Mascoma River
The longest consecutively-run whitewater slalom race in the country. Register here: https://www.ledyardcanoeclub.org/events.html
  *   3–6pm — Dartmouth Explorers Symposium — Dartmouth Hall 105
Talks by Ledyard alumni of historic river expeditions and racing careers, and a panel on hydropower vs. conservation: Climate Solution and Conservation Challenge. Check it out!

  *   9pm — Riverfest Party — DOC House
Enjoy food, beer (21+), live music featuring student band The Indefinite (check them out on Spotify!), and a raffle with fantastic prizes thanks to our sponsors.


SUNDAY, APRIL 22

  *   9am — Wells River Rumble — Wells River
A mass-start, downriver race on a small, class IV creek in northern Vermont. Register here: https://www.ledyardcanoeclub.org/events.html

  *   2pm — Tour of the Olympic Shed boats — Ledyard Clubhouse
Join us down at the Clubhouse by the river to walk through a collection of historic boats the Club has amassed, led by Michael Schedin '20.

  *   2:45pm — Ledyard Alumni Expeditions Council — Collis 101
An informal panel of alumni talking about their experiences in expedition leadership, diplomacy, sponsorship and fundraising, documentation, and media relations, to inspire future expeditions in the Ledyard Canoe Club. Led by Wick Walker '68.
