GlobeMed at Dartmouth partners with the Kachin Women's Association Thailand (KWAT), a grassroots organization located in Chiang Mai, Thailand. KWAT provides health care and educational services, as well as safe shelters and other support for victims of ethnic conflict in Burma. Civil war and political and economic deterioration in this state have caused thousands to flee their homes in Burma and cross the border into Thailand where many live without access to basic necessities. GlobeMed at Dartmouth is engaging in fundraising campaigns throughout the year to fund the construction and equipment for a medical laboratory that will provide free diagnostic services for HIV/AIDS, malaria, and TB for impoverished community members. GlobeMed at Dartmouth also hosts a year-long curriculum of discussions on major topics in global health and each year sends a group of Dartmouth students to Thailand to work on-site with our partner community.
