The Last Mountain is an award-winning documentary about the destructive practice of mountaintop removal coal mining (MTR).

7pm Monday, May 7th
Filene Auditorium, Moore Hall

Snacks will be provided!

The producer of the film will be there!

Come learn about where our energy comes from and what steps you can take to help the communities devastated by MTR.

Dinner discussion: Tuesday, May 8th at 7pm, in Occom Commons. The first 30 people get a full dinner from Maple Street!

*****

Called "strip mining on steroids," MTR uses explosives to blow off the tops of mountains in order to get to coal seams underneath. This practice has led to the large-scale destruction of the Appalachian mountain range, rampant air pollution, and the contamination of drinking water in many of America's poorest communities (poverty rates of 30-45%). By 2012, 2,200 square miles of Appalachian forest will be cleared by MTR. By 2013, MTR will have damaged or buried 2,400 miles of stream. Meanwhile, MTR communities face significantly higher mortality rates than other mining communities. Please come to the screening to learn more!

Brought to you by the Environmental Justice ASB. Sponsored by the Upper Valley Sierra Club, the Dartmouth Sustainability Office, and the Tucker Foundation.
