Dear 13s, 14s, and 15s,

If you are an upperclassman interested in taking part in the college's internal adjudication proceedings, please consider joining the Committee on Standards (COS) and the Organizational Adjudication Committee (OAC). The committees need a few more student members - you are encouraged to apply!

Read the important information below, fill out the short application, and send it back to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.

Applications are due no later than this Sunday (10/14) at midnight.

The COS, chaired by the Dean of the College (or the Dean’s designee) hears cases involving undergraduates concerning violations of the:

1. Academic Honor Principle

2. Standards of Conduct

3. Academic Standards and Requirements

4. Cases involving appeals of certain registrarial actions

The OAC is established to carry out the Board of Trustees’ directive that “All students and student organizations should be treated under the same set of guiding principles and rules, and that violations be adjudicated by a single judicial system embracing all student organizations…” College recognition of student organizations is a privilege, and student organizations are recognized and supported in order to further the broad educational objective of the College. The OAC process will review all such cases for organizations charged with violating the existing Standards of Conduct.

Term Length: One academic year.

Meeting Times: All COS/OAC meetings are held on Monday and Thursday afternoons beginning at 2:00pm and often extend into the early evening. Applicants must be available on one of these two days during their terms of service. Students may be asked to serve up to 6 times per term. All students appointed to the COS/OAC are required to attend one training session prior to serving on a Committee panel.

Notes for Applicants:

Student members must be sophomores, juniors, or seniors who have not been previously suspended from the College and cannot be on College Probation during their terms of service. Additionally, students cannot be on Academic Probation. Students in the community who are on leave terms but are in the Hanover area are eligible to serve. More information can be found in the green pages of the current Student Handbook.
