Week 8 already?!

[LightheartedRichBoubou-small.gif]

So many mountains to hike,

trails to work,

lemons to juice,

and so little time!!!

[image.png]

Sign up for the trips going out this week below so this^ can be you before summer is over!

P.S. There's a little hike going on this weekend that you might have heard of. They're hiking fifty miles in one fell swoop?! Wild. If you're not already supporting or hiking, there will likely be opportunities to help the Fifty directors clean up and earn support points, so stay tuned!

CnT leads lots and lots of hikes, cabin overnights, and assorted shenanigans in all weather! And you can borrow any and all winter/rain/hiking gear that you might need - from warm layers to zero degree sleeping bags to rain pants - for FREE!!!! (Just ask!)

Your gear options include but are not limited to:

  *   hiking boots!

  *   puffy jackets!

  *   shell pants/rain pants!

  *   rain jackets/windbreakers!

  *   balaclavas!

  *   sleeping bags!

If you'd like to get outside this weekend, sign up for any of the trips below by blitzing the email or clicking the link provided with your dietary restrictions and shoe size!

 As always, blitz the leaders with any and all questions!

This week, extra beginner friendly trips (including trailwork!) are marked with COOL GREEN (plus you can always check the levels or ask a leader for advice) ((notes on the level system at the end of the email))!!

WEDNESDAY WEDNESDAY WEDNESDAY What: Moose Mountain trailwork (reblazing!)

When: Wednesday for 4 hours in the afternoon - probably around 12-4 but negotiable depending on your schedule!

Why: Hikers have been reporting that the blazes on Moose are hard to read. Since this is part of the AT we maintain (and part of the Fifty people are about to hike), we're going to take a bucket of white paint and go blaze some trees! We'll maybe also bring an axe and have the option to chop blowdowns blocking the trail. The total trail is about 4 miles, but we'll just go as far as we can productively cover. No experience needed, just a desire to paint some white rectangles!

Level: 2

Leaders: Katie McCabe

Cost: free duh

Gear: close-toed shoes and a water bottle

Blitz: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> asap!

WEDNESDAY WEDNESDAY WEDNESDAY Come to Allyship in the Outdoors tomorrow, August 7th, at 7 PM in Collis 101! We'll be eating Taj-e-India and leading an action-oriented workshop that will focus on what it means and actually looks like to be an ally in an outdoor setting, because gender dynamics affect all of us, and we all have a responsibility to understand them.

THURSDAY THURSDAY THURSDAY DOSqueeze! come drink delicious lemonade with us on Robo steps. Rain location is Fauxbo (second floor collis!)

THURSDAY THURSDAY THURSDAY What: Summer Shenanigans Overnight

When: Thursday, August 8th @5:30 pm – Friday, August 9th before 9Ls

Why: Swimming and maybe ice cream and an overnight!

Level: 1

Leaders: Christopher Cartwright ’21 and Jonathan Gliboff ‘20

Cost: Free!

Gear: Sleeping Bag, headlamp, towel, swimsuit, cash for ice cream

Blitz/link: Blitz [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> to sign up!

SATURDAY SATURDAY SATURDAY What: Presi Traverse

When: 8:00 pm Friday - 9:00pm Saturday

Why: This is a full traverse of the Presidential Range. 23 miles, 10,000 feet of vertical gain, and long stretches above treeline. It’s a classic White Mountains route. You must be very confident in your hiking abilities – the long mileage is made more difficult by challenging terrain and extreme weather conditions, and bailout options are infrequent. That said, if you’re up for the challenge it’s a spectacular hike. We’re staying at Billings cabin Friday night, then getting an early start Saturday morning. We’ll finish the traverse by sunset and return to campus Saturday night.

Leaders: Matt Magann ‘21 and Will French ‘21

Gear: A daypack, 3L of water, multiple warm layers, a wind layer, good hiking shoes.

Blitz [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> to sign up!

A note about levels....

Level 1: Short, easy, super-beginner friendly hikes at a leisurely pace with relatively little elevation gain. Think Gile sunsikes and trips to Mink Brook!

Level 2: Slightly longer but still beginner friendly hikes with slight elevation gain, typically half day trips! Think Holt's Ledge or Moose Mountain!

Level 3: Longer trips with moderate elevation gain and mileages! Think Smarts and Cube!

Level 4: Longer trips with more significant elevation gain and mileages! Think Franc Ridge or the Kinsmans!

Level 5: Trips with the most significant elevation gain and mileages! Think Madison, Adams, and Washington!
