“Axfest” trailwork trip on Moosilauke in July



Cabin and Trail does all this and more.

Cabin and Trail leads lots and lots of hikes, cabin overnights, and assorted shenanigans even in winter weather! And you can borrow any and all winter gear that you might need - from warm layers to zero degree sleeping bags to snowshoes - for FREE!!!! (Just ask!)

Your gear options include but are not limited to:



  *   hiking boots!

  *   puffy jackets!

  *   shell pants/rain pants!

  *   rain jackets/windbreakers!

  *   balaclavas!

  *   sleeping bags!

  *   snowshoes!

  *   cross country skis!

If you'd like to get outside this weekend, sign up for any of the trips below by blitzing the email or clicking the link provided with your dietary restrictions and shoe size!

 As always, blitz the leaders with any and all questions!

This week we've marked our extra extra beginner friendly trips with YELLOW HIGHLIGHTS.

WEDNESDAY WEDNESDAY WEDNESDAY



What: THE FEED! A feed is when we get together and eat a home-cooked dinner. It will take place at the Rock, which is an off-campus house at 16 Sargent St.

When: 7:00 (but there will be a walking train leaving from the back steps of Robo at 6:45!)

Why: To get to know people in Cabin and Trail over some tasty, free food!

Cost: FREE, really, save your swipe

No need to sign up, just show up!!!

What: Cardigan Sunsike (Sunset Hike)

When: Probably 5:00pm to 9:00pm

Why: Watch the sun set with some good folks. Feel fulfilled. 4 miles roundtrip, a little steep in parts but forgiving terrain.

Level: 2

Leaders: Frances Mize and Matt Radosevich

Cost: Free & Free

Gear: Warm layers and coat, rain jacket, hat, gloves, headlamp, and at least a liter of water. You can borrow any and all of this from DOR, so just let us know if you need to borrow anything!

What: BIRD HIKE!!!

When: 6:45 am - 8:45 am

Why: We're going to Mink Brook to do some birding! This is going to be the best time of your life. It's gonna be so early, but so worth it.

Level : 1, just a nice birding stroll.

Leaders: Ben Schelling and Katya Golubovsky!

Cost: Freeeeeeeeeee

Gear: Wear some sturdy hiking shoes and if you have binoculars or a camera, bring them! If not, no worries.

What: Wright's Mountain

When: 4:00pm-7:00pm

Why: Chill way to relax on a Friday afternoon! only a few miles and pretty easy going

What: Mt. Cardigan!!

When: 9am-12:30pm

Why: Chill 4-mile hike. Peep some cute views at the peak and hear some lit bops on the road. it'll be a t i m e

What: Mt. Ascutney Hike!

When: 10am-4pm

Why: Because it's a moderate hike with great summit views, the temperature is no longer frigid, and you want to come hang out with fun CnT people!

Level: 2.5

Gear: Boots, Microspikes, gloves, warm layers

What: Mt. Moose-unlock! (Moosilauke)

When: Saturday 9AM- 5PM

Why: Connect with mother earth and #freethemoose. 7 miles round trip and possibly a diner stop ;)

Gear: Hiking boots, warm clothing, rain layers ( we will provide microspikes and any other gear you may need!)

What: Willey, Tom, and Field

When: Saturday, 8am-6pm

Why: Because it’s 9 miles of fun and WTF else would you do on a Saturday

Level: 4 (according to David, the experienced leader) or 4.14 (according to Ben, who hadn’t heard of these mountains until David asked him about them this evening)

Leaders: David Vonderheide (experienced leader)and Ben Brody (hype man)

Gear: Hat, gloves, many warm layers (Spring is fake news), maybe something waterproof. Microspikes, overboots, and/or snowshoes will be provided as needed and you can borrow any and all things from DOR for free, just ask!

What: Trailwork on Velvet Rocks!

When: 9am to whenever we got bored and come back to campus, probs

no later than 4pm

Why: Because we're responsible for 50 miles of the AT and that's super

cool! Good snacks, sharp tools, some mud, cool people.

Level : 1

Leaders: Maddy Kroot and Madylin Partridge

Cost: FREE

Gear: Closed-toed shoes and clothing you can get muddy! Plus water

and layers

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY    What: Moose Mountain!

When: 2-6 PM Sun

Why: Chillish hike on the mountain they call Moose!

Level : 2

A note about levels....

Level 1: Short, easy, super-beginner friendly hikes at a leisurely pace with relatively little elevation gain. Think Gile sunsikes and trips to Mink Brook!

Level 2: Slightly longer but still beginner friendly hikes with slight elevation gain, typically half day trips! Think Holt's Ledge or Moose Mountain!

Level 3: Longer trips with moderate elevation gain and mileages! Think Smarts and Cube!

Level 4: Longer trips with more significant elevation gain and mileages! Think Franc Ridge or the Kinsmans!

Level 5: Trips with the most significant elevation gain and mileages! Think Madison, Adams, and Washington!
