Dear Colleagues:
It is my sad duty to inform you that a colleague of ours, Mathew Charles, passed away last night at the age of 90. He was an active researcher in Philippine linguistics and a good friend to many of us. He was a kind and gentle person.
His widow, Norma Charles, now retired, was a long-time teacher of Indonesian.
