My idea was to promote their existence and to encourage people to share their resources and their creations. A few people showed great interest in the idea, but I haven't got any tangible results in the way of an exercise repository. At the time I mentioned that I was particularly impressed by exercises that provide the student with instant feedback, as opposed to exercises which just test the student. I mentioned some such exercises I had found, but mentioned that I didn't think that Hot Potatoes could give the same type of feedback. I must say that since then I have become more familiar with Hot Potatoes and the truth is that I am quite impressed. I encourage people to give the program a try. This is quite a suite of programs: Hot Potatoes: http://web.uvic.ca/hrd/halfbaked/ (FREE!) Another very nice resource for making Web-based exercises is Gary Smith's WebPractest, which was recently upgraded and works now with both Netscape and Internet Explorer. WebPractest: http://www.wm.edu/CAS/modlang/gasmit/webpractest (FREE!) And Web Author: http://ccat.sas.upenn.edu/plc/larrc/webauthor.html (FREE) One other nice example of Web exercises (Spanish): http://www.lclark.edu/~benenati/gramatica.html Thanks to all of you who shared your ideas and resources with me. Once there is a community of language instructors who are users of HotPotatoes and other such products I am sure Web-based language exercises will become ubiquitous and freely shared.
