I didn’t notice any head bobbing on the duck we saw in the photo while we were watching, which was mid-morning.  I’ll check with my fellow birder and see if she did.

I think David is probably right about the volunteer wondering if a female mallard was a blue-winged teal instead.  There were definitely several groups of female mallards with chicks, a lone chick, and at least one pair of females without chicks.

The mallard with three chicks in the photo was at the south end of the bog around noon.  Many fewer wood ducks than last week.
