Northern Stage presents Ayad Akhtar’s Pulitzer Prize-Winning
Disgraced at the Barrette Center for the Arts
Date: February 28 to March 18
Time: Varies
Location:
Barrette Center for the Arts
Cost:
Tickets start at $15 for students and $34 for adults
Ayad Akhtar’s
Disgraced runs live on stage at the Barrette Center for the Arts in White River Junction, VT, February 28 - March 18. For tickets and information, call (802) 296-7000
or visit www.northernstage.org. Tickets start at $15 for students
and $34 for adults. Disgraced
confronts issues of race and identity and how we relate to one another in a
contentious political climate. Amir Kapoor, a successful Pakistani-American lawyer who is rapidly
moving up the corporate ladder while distancing himself from his cultural roots, is caught up in a
case against a local Imam. The perception of Amir’s involvement in the defense of the Imam
ripples through his work, his marriage to his white wife Emily, and ultimately explodes at a dinner
party with his African American business partner and her Jewish art dealer husband. The
couples’ discussion turns to questions of religious faith, and what begins as simple dinner
conversation escalates into something far more damaging.
Disgraced ultimately reveals the
prejudices and racial biases often simmering just below the surface. For any questions please contact

Montshire Talks: Frankenstein and the Philosophy of Science
Date: Tuesday, March 6
Time:
6:30pm to 7:30pm
Location:
Montshire Museum of Science
Cost: FREE!
From a philosopher’s perspective, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein operates on several levels: a philosophical exploration of what it means to be human and the nature of moral responsibility, the nature of science
and scientific knowledge—at a pivotal and transitional moment in the history of science—and of the role of the scientist in society. Contextualizing these philosophical and scientific issues helps us see Frankenstein as a fascinating and provocative exploration
of questions about human nature and the human condition, the quest for knowledge, and the nature of moral responsibility. Dr. Michael Ashooh specializes in the philosophy of science and explores the context in which Frankenstein was written, and the lasting
scientific and moral questions raised by this modern myth. Dr. Ashooh is a lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Vermont.
Montshire Talks: Frankenstein200 is a Montshire conversation series that celebrates the 200th anniversary of the publication of Mary Shelley’s "Frankenstein”. Free and open to the public. Sponsored by Ledyard
National Bank. If you have any questions please contact Trish Palao at
[log in to unmask] or 802-649-2200.
