Writing F31 grant applications retreat

Dear Graduate Students,

The Dartmouth Biomedical Libraries and Dartmouth GrantGPS are pleased to sponsor a writer’s retreat in support of graduate students writing F31 grant applications.

Did you recently write your qualifying exam in the format of an NIH F31?

Are you planning to submit your proposal to the NIH for funding consideration, but want to make it more competitive?

The retreat will be held January 25 (8:00am- 5:15pm) and January 26(9:00am- 5:00pm), and supplemented with three one-day sessions being held February 9, February 23, and March 9. The retreat and all subsequent sessions will be held at the Matthews-Fuller Health Sciences Library at DHMC.

The sessions will provide:
Seminars on successful proposal writing
Group feedback on Specific Aims
Individual feedback on proposal from a grant writing specialist
Peer feedback sessions
Protected writing time
Consultations on literature searching, NIH public access policy compliance, citation management

This retreat is intended for graduate students in the process of writing an NIH F31 grant application. It will include structured programming in a small-group setting along with protected time for participants to focus on writing their grant. It is expected that participants attend both days of the retreat, and all subsequent sessions.

Who Should Attend?: Anyone in the process of preparing an NIH F31 grant application.
Cost: Thanks to generous support from Dartmouth Grant GPS, there is no fee for participants.

Application Deadline: December 11, 2017 by 5:00PM
How to Apply: Click here for more information and to apply. This is a competitive application process. A professionally diverse cohort will be selected from the applicants. Participants will be selected in order to maximize their ability to learn from and with each other.

Advisor requirements: By December 11, 2017, your advisor must submit a letter of support. The letter should confirm their commitment to supporting your application, and must confirm their willingness to allow you to attend the full length of the retreat and all subsequent sessions. Advisors of selected participants will meet with Dean Madden to discuss best practices for writing the letter of support to be included with your NIH application.

You will be notified by December 15 if you have been selected to participate. If you are not selected to participate, you may have the opportunity to attend a future offering of this program.

Participation is limited to ten people. Selected participants will be required to submit a one-page draft of their Specific Aims section two weeks in advance of the retreat.
