How can one integrate authentic synchronous communication with native
speakers into a language program? In the next IALLT webinar, Florencia
Henshaw of the University of Illinois, will give an overview of existing
research, review the advantages and limitations of different available
platforms, and discuss a specific multi-step project in an
intermediate-level Spanish course which involved four conversations with
native speakers through the TalkAbroad platform. She will present the
result of a questionnaire administered at the end of the project,
reflecting the students’ perceptions of the experience, and outline
preliminary implications for best practices based on students’ responses.
