We have some administrative assistant openings available in our Department. These administrative assistants work directly with a surgeon or two to coordinate clinical care (i.e. schedule surgery, clinic appointments, etc.) and they have involvement within the clinic itself (some perform medical assistant responsibilities as well to gain clinical hours). We look for graduating students with an interest in medicine (i.e. neurosciences, pre-med, nursing, healthcare administration, etc.) who want to gain some experience working in a hospital while also getting insight into their next step (i.e. medical school, PA/NP/RN, healthcare administration, etc.). We have been very successful in the past few years getting our staff access to participate in research in our outcomes center, observe clinicians on the floor/OR, etc. to the point where several have gotten into Medical School, some into PA/RN school, and some are now managers. We work hard to ensure that these positions are not just entry level positions, but a learning experience that helps guide and promote their futures.
