* Science Scholars *

Dear graduate students,

Science Scholars is a program where we connect first year medical
students at Geisel with their peer mentors to help them better navigate
the scientific environment at Dartmouth, find a faculty mentor, and
prepare to spend the summer before their second year conducting a basic,
clinical, or translational project of their choice.

Traditionally, the Science Scholars has been a program run by MD-PhD
students and built around peer mentorship (medical students mentored by
graduate students at Dartmouth) with a few additional workshops designed
to introduce medical students to the world of science. More recently, we
have worked hard to make the experience of being a Science Scholar even
more meaningful by making the membership selective, establishing a
specific 1-on-1 mentoring structure, adding more diverse and numerous
workshops, and even connecting with the undergraduate community. This
upcoming year, for the first time, Science Scholars has formally become
an enrichment elective course at Geisel, improving on the core
mentorship structure of our program with even more workshops, involving
more faculty members, and reflecting students’ participation on their
academic transcripts.

Therefore, we are very excited to invite and encourage you to apply to
become the mentors for the new cohort of Science Scholars among the
Geisel class of 2021. Each mentor is expected to assist their assigned
mentee with:
- finding research faculty based on the mentee's research interest
- fellowship and grant applications for prospective research
opportunities
- preparation of their CV/resume
- preparation of posters, abstracts, and publications (if appropriate)
- general guidance in any other questions related to conducting
scientific research
Peer mentors are expected to meet with their mentees on a monthly basis. More
information about the Science Scholars program can be found at: http://geiselmed.dartmouth.edu/mdphd/links/science/

If you are interested in becoming a peer mentor, please fill out the
following survey by 11:59 pm on Sunday, October 1st:

Looking forward to working with you this year!

All the best,

- Science Scholars coordinators
