I led a group of fifteen birders along the rail trail and Icehouse Road at
the west end of Mascoma Lake this morning. We tallied 32 species and had
great looks at many of them. The highlights involved breeding evidence as
we were able to locate half a dozen nests. Among them, we had two Baltimore
Oriole nests, one American Redstart, one Yellow Warbler and a Least
Flycatcher nest. American Redstarts were very active and we had the
opportunity to study adult males, first year males and females (one on the
nest we found). We also had a Common Loon around the dam area. Thanks to
