I birded the Mystery Trail at the UVD this am…..pretty busy.
As I crossed the bridge, I flushed a thrush. Not a robin. Always good to look….. Wood: no. Hermit: no, rufous tail, coloring wrong.
Veery ?......no, wrong color, not enough spots (had great looks at one along the road as I was leaving). So…. this was Swainson’s. No vocalizations. Interesting olive/ gray color. But the face color and pattern are distinct.
Bit of an eye ring, a brownish/ yellow cheek lines. More of an altitude, boreal forest bird….but hay, they migrate.
VaRa at the pond, doing its “tick-it, tick-it” song. 3 Alder Flycatchers at the pond.
No. Parula, Am. Redstarts and Yellow warblers about.
No. Waterthrush singing along the river by the bridge.
Good to be out.
