* Letter from the Dean on GRAD Housing *

To the graduate student community,

I am writing to let you know that, as a result of the unprecedented
number of undergraduate students who will enter Dartmouth in the Class
of 2021, Provost Carolyn Dever and Executive Vice President Rick Mills
have informed me that the North Park residences will not be available
for graduate and professional students in the fall.

This was not an easy decision for them to make, and I know it comes as a
disappointment to those of us in the GRAD community. Please know that
Provost Dever and EVP Mills remain strong supporters of graduate and
professional students. In collaboration with them, I will do all that I
can to support strengthening the graduate student community and
supporting your activities in the years to come. One way that we are
doing this is with the opening this summer of the graduate student
lounge, which I hope will be a welcoming place for graduate student
events.

With the help of the Dartmouth Real Estate Office we have identified
alternate housing for the residences that will no longer be available,
and we have contacted the students who had been expecting to live there
in the fall. I am also working with Transportation Services to explore
extending bus routes and service hours on evenings and weekends for
students who live outside Hanover and for those who don’t have cars, or
choose not to drive.

The deans of Geisel, Thayer, and Tuck, along with the provost and EVP,
support the development of a long-term plan for graduate and
professional student housing. I will be calling on graduate and
professional student leadership to help shape future plans for
transportation and housing.

Thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions, please feel
free to contact the GRAD office.

Sincerely,

Jon Kull
Dean of Graduate and Advanced Studies
