Yesterday morning my daughter and I briefly birded both sides of the Wilder Dam in a blustery wind and snow flurries. In addition to the large congregation of Canada
Geese and Mallards at Kilowatt South, we found several Common Mergansers, Buffleheads, Common Goldeneyes, many Ring-necked Ducks, Scaup sp. (probably Greater, but it was too distant to be sure), a singing Song Sparrow, and a singing House Finch. My daughter
spotted a Bald Eagle soaring overhead, and as we were getting ready to leave on the New Hampshire side, a bedraggled-looking muskrat swam across in front of us and climbed onto the boat launch.
