Around 7 this morning, here in the hills above Strafford, VT, I was delighted to see five Evening Grosbeaks around my sunflower feeders. Two were adult males, two females, and one perhaps a younger bird, looking duller in coloring than the others. The two males had flecks of bright red on their bills and after investigating around the snow-covered yard, I confirmed that they had been eating Sumac berries. Such a wonderous early winter we're having!
