TOPIC: Federal Update 

 

Faculty:
Cynthia (Cindy) Hope, Assistant Vice President of Research and Director, Office of Sponsored Programs

University of Alabama, Chair, Federal Demonstration Partnership

 

Cindy will discuss two important organizations for the research administration community:  the Federal Demonstration Partnership (FDP), an association of federal US agencies, academic research institutions, and research policy organizations that work to streamline the administration of federally sponsored research, and the Council on Governmental Relations (COGR), an association of leading research universities, affiliated medical centers, and independent research institutes that communicates the viewpoint and concerns of its members to federal policymakers.  She will describe the structure and purpose of each organization and talk about their current initiatives that directly affect the grantee community.

 

John Sholhead, Ph.D., Chief Cash Management Operations, Office of Chief Financial Office, National Science Foundation

 

Dr. Sholhead will discuss NSF’s grants operations, explaining the different divisions grants process through from proposal through grant closeout.  He will describe the role of NSF’s cash management operations office in baseline monitoring of grantee financial transactions, including important areas such as program income, canceling funds, expenditure transaction testing, as well as NSF’s new initiative in data analytics (balances of concern).
