Bio-note:

Dr. Marcin Piatkowski is a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University’s Center for European Studies and a Senior Economist in the World Bank, where his work focuses on promoting competitiveness, innovation and entrepreneurship in East Asia and Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). He is also Assistant Professor of Economics at Kozminski University in Warsaw (currently on leave), the highest ranked business school in CEE. Previously, he was Chief Economist and Managing Director of PKO BP, the largest bank in CEE, economist in the European Department of the IMF and Advisor to IMF's Executive Director. During 2002-03, he served as Advisor to Poland's Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance, contributing to the fiscal reform program. Dr. Piatkowski holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Kozminski University and M.A. in Finance and Banking summa cum laude from the Warsaw School of Economics. He was a visiting scholar at Harvard University, OECD Development Centre and London Business School. He authored a number of books and numerous papers on the growth fundamentals of the CEE region and proposed a new set of policy prescriptions called "The Warsaw Consensus". He is one of the most quoted Polish and CEE economists, including in Financial Times and The Economist. His is now writing a book on “Poland: The European Growth Champion. Insights from the Successful Post-Communist Transition”, which will be published by Oxford University Press in late 2017. His World Bank paper on “Poland’s New Golden Age: Shifting from Europe’s Periphery to Its Center” has become an international headline describing Poland’s historically unprecedented economic success in the last 25 years. In his free time, he enjoys running marathons (3:28), participating in Half Iron Man triathlons (6:12), reading and dancing.
