The best spot in Orford for shorebirds yielded four species today. After Hurricane Irene, a mudflat was formed on the Jacobs Brook Outlet which can get pretty large when the river is low. Today I had two Lesser Yellowlegs, a Least Sandpiper, a Spotted Sandpiper and a Solitary Sandpiper there. This mudflat is best viewed from the Trinity Farm. I park at the end of the Orford Common, walk a short distance up Route 10 and turn left onto a path that goes along the edge of the farm (between the greenhouse and the woods). The owner, Rob O'Donnell is okay with birders or fishermen walking this path down to the outlet. This area is great for waterfowl also during migration. If anyone wants more specific directions, contact me off list.
