This afternoon I took my usual walk on some of the trails along Mink Brook in Hanover. My most unusual sighting was a late Fox Sparrow, keeping company with some White-throated Sparrows. I also observed 11 species of warblers—Ovenbird, Black-and-white, redstart, parula, Magnolia, Blackburnian, Yellow, Black-throated Blue, Pine, Yellow-rumped, and Black-throated Green—several of which were firsts of the spring for me. Other notables included House Wrens (regular here since April 30), Ruby-crowned Kinglets, two Spotted Sandpipers, and a pair of Green-winged Teal in the river. A group of Bohemian Waxwings had been lingering on campus, but I haven’t seen them since May 4, so I think they’ve finally headed out. Meanwhile, lots of other birds are flooding in to take their place!
