Jeff,

We have the same trend in Norwich. No red squirrels this year and two big grays instead. Yesterday a mole poked his head above ground, dashed to the base of the feeder, grabbed a few sunflower seeds and jumped back into his hole. 

 Nearby, watching, was a red tailed (?) hawk who did not pounce but I expect made a mental note of what happened.
