Tonight between 7:30 and 8 pm, I watched a large snapping turtle--shell about two feet long--crawling out of the marsh at Lake Runnemede. Coming down the path to the west branch of the lake, on the right before a cottonwood bent at about 45 degrees, the turtle crawled slowly, whenever it did not see me moving or apparently watching. It seemed to be angling for where the bank would not be too steep. Nearby is a red trillium, I believe, on the marsh side of the bank. The frogs were making a very loud chorus of calls.
