In and around the open water now along Kendall Station Road in Norwich, VT, this afternoon were about 40 Mallards, 4 Hooded Mergansers, and a first winter plumage male Common Goldeneye, all within easy viewing range with binoculars. After this past winter when ice cover was the rule at that location, the presence of ducks with open water is a nice sign of spring.
