My jays have been gone for 2 weeks. I think they were driven by weather to find food farther south. Usually, when they court you can hear them, if not see them. They are quite conspicuous. I'll ask my birding friends in MA,
LI, and NJ if they are experiencing an influx of jays.
Some years when a lot of robins stick around, once the dried berries, hollies usually, are gone, and the weather becomes cold and snowy, they withdraw from their northern outposts.
