Kyle Jones, Sarah Carline and I visited Foxstand this morning, wading through the dense weedy patch at the farm's north end in search of sparrows, which were abundant but exceedingly difficult to identify as they bolted from view. We probably identified <20% of the sparrows we encountered. Highlights included: Turkey Vulture 20 in one kettle, apparently coming off a roost Bald Eagle 1 Red-tailed Hawk 1 Pectoral Sandpiper 1 Peregrine Falcon 1 Palm Warbler (Western) 1 Palm Warbler (Yellow) 2 Yellow-rumped Warbler 30 Wilson's Warbler 1 Chipping Sparrow 30 Field Sparrow 2 Savannah Sparrow 15 Song Sparrow 44 Lincoln's Sparrow 1 Swamp Sparrow 8 White-throated Sparrow 4 White-crowned Sparrow 12 Indigo Bunting 16 Purple Finch 8 American Goldfinch 41 View this checklist online athttp://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S20012354 A late morning stop at Kilowatt showed significant turnover since yesterday. The Surf Scoter was gone, but in its place were 24 American Black Ducks, 4 Green-winged Teal, 4 Ring-necked Ducks, and 7 D-c Cormorants, among the usual characters.
