Rob,
I'm a huge fan of Bird Watching in Vermont, and looking
forward to an updated edition. At the same time, the question you
posed is one that can be answered very quickly by eBird.
Even without a personal account, I've set the following link to show
all Wheatear sightings reported during the months of March through
July. Try typing Vermont in the Location field above the map, and
what you will see is centered on Vermont; you can move in any
direction with the mouse. I suggest clicking the box "Show Points
Sooner" which will show individual sightings. Then, best of all,
these are clickable to show comprehensive details.

To show why so many of us are excited about eBird, you can change
the seasonal range in the Date box (e.g., "Year-round"). Then click
the blue flag in Orange County and you'll see all the details on the
sighting that Ted Levin mentioned. That was the 3rd state record for
the species, from September 1985!

Have fun, and beware that you might get addicted.

wife and I were delighted to see the Wheatear around noon on
Saturday thanks to another birder who located it for us. According
to Bird Watching in Vermont, it is a very rare visitor to the
Champlain Valley in the fall. So I'm wondering if there are
previous Upper Valley records and specifically if there are
previous spring records. Thanks to whoever knows.
