You don’t have to be an expert - you just have to have an opinion! *Mon Apr 21, 7-9:45pm: Cine Salon (Lost Films Found**): **Jonas Mekas: A Happy Man* (Mayer Room, Howe Library) At 91, Mekas’ latest film is a perfect summation of a lifetime spent championing the little events of everyday life. “Jonas Mekas calls his blissed-out new movie *Out-Takes From the Life of a Happy Man*. If you would like to be part of this group, please RSVP by replying to this email.* *Fri Apr 25, 3:45-5:15pm: Digital Diaspora Family Reunion* (Tupelo Music Hall, White River Junction VT) The innovative transmedia companion to the film, Digital Diaspora Family Reunion (DDFR) re-imagines the social network by inviting audiences to participate in building the One World One Family Album (#1WORLD1FAMILY) by uploading and sharing their own family photos. Started in 2009, DDFR has held 13 live events, in 5 cities, generated 8.2 million media impressions, conducted over 600 interviews, gathering over 6,500 photographs in the process, which are part of a virtual user-generated family photo album that compliments the content of the film and celebrates shared values which underlie the American Experience. Photography? Alaska? Prof. Tim Smith is working on a documentary *Hydrokinetic Power for a Remote Alaskan Community. *He is looking for a student to go *this July* to Igiugig, a remote village in Alaska, and document the installation of a turbine in it's river. Central to the project is recording the reaction of the local population to this turbine. The ideal candidate has in interest in several of the following: videography, energy & environment and remote communities. The candidate may be working independently for several weeks in Alaska. Laing '25 was a poet, novelist and Professor of Belles Letters at the College. This award has been funded in recent years by friends of Film and Media Studies. The winner will receive a cash prize, which will be given at the Hopkins Center Award Ceremony in May. *There are two categories. One for Feature scripts (~95-120 pages long), one for Short Scripts (~8 to 20 pages long). There may be more than one winner in each category.* Primary consideration will be given to a subject's potential as effective movie material and how well the writer can convey that potential in a shootable script. All manuscripts must be typed and submitted in triplicate on three-hole punched paper, fastened with two or three brads. Name of writer should appear on the title page only. (The Film and Media Studies Department Office can supply a 3-hole punch and brads.) *Submitted manuscripts must be received by Film Studies in a box for this purpose outside Cheryl Coutermarsh’s office in the Visual Arts Center by 4:00PM on Friday May 2, 2014. (Note that ALL Dartmouth Undergraduates as well as those who graduated last spring are eligible. This is partly because most seniors were still writing their feature-length scripts when the deadline arrived.) 7. *Stories Growing Films Seeking Production Designers:* Stories Growing Films is looking for a Production Designer for the comedic short film it's producing this term, *Monkey House*. The Production Designer collaborates with the director on the overall visual look of the film. Responsibilities include scouting and selecting locations, decorating locations for scenes, and selecting props. It's an exciting hands-on position that combines design and film! The film's synopsis: Illegal Invisible Ignited tells the story of Franky DeLuna, a Hispanic who dreams of being an inventor but that was brought to the United States illegally when he was a little boy. He struggles to find his place in a country that requires him to not exist and is deported when he contacts the police in order to prevent a rape. As he tries to make a new home in Mexico, Franky discovers the corruption of the cartels and must decide whether it is better to live in a country where his life is in danger or a country that doesn't want him. Think *12 Years a Slave* mixed with *The Pursuit of Happyness* but told through the salient issue of illegal immigration.
