Stopped at a few spots this afternoon along the river. There is enough open water at Reed's Marsh for eight Wood Ducks, six Hooded Mergansers and a couple of Mallards. There were similar species and numbers at the Richmond Conservation Land as my post Friday (Ring-necked Ducks, Green-winged Teal, Common Mergansers, Canada Geese and the same species as Reed's). Also had a Swamp and a Fox Sparrow. No signs of the Rusty Blackbirds from Friday. If anyone checked my photo, it may have been a female grackle instead of a female Rusty. I was pretty eager to post a picture after finally figuring out how to use my smartphone, scope and Flickr account. There WAS at least one male rusty among the grackles Friday, it was too small for a grackle, short-tailed and black.
Today there were a lot of waterfowl at Bayley's Eddy in Newbury. Similar species as down river for me, but more of everything, most impressive were the Green-winged Teal. I counted sixty-five in the flooded cornfield!
