Dear All

I am planning to remove some archaeological wood from a shoreline site, but after several weeks of the wood being exposed on the shore it turns mushy and falls apart. Thus, I am quite concerned about removing them and bringing them back to the lab for geochemical analysis.

Does anyone have any experience on preserving such archaeological wood? Note, without resins etc., as I wish to conduct stable isotope analysis on the wood in the future.

Cheers
