New Hampshire EPSCoR Seed Grant Opportunity
2014 Application Guidelines
Due April 1, 2014
NH EPSCoR and Campus Compact for NH have established a seed grant opportunity for faculty teams to foster partnerships between community colleges
and public or private four-year colleges or universities that serve primarily undergraduate students. The purpose of these partnerships is two-fold: 1) Broaden participation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, particularly among women and
underserved populations, and 2) Build research capacity in the STEM disciplines.
Successful applicants will identify a partnership between at least one community college and four-year college or university. These seed grants are intended to provide
start-up funding for new projects that align to the NH EPSCoR Ecosystems & Society project (generally environmental science, social science, engineering, and computing - more information here) and
will lead to other proposals to outside funding sources (such as the National Science Foundation, Environmental Protection Agency, or corporate or private foundations) to sustain and broaden this partnership. Collaborative projects may include exploring
a concept for a research proposal, redesigning STEM curricula, or integrating research experiences, civic engagement or service learning in STEM curricula (describe the focus of your project in your application). Projects with a medical theme are not eligible .
Aligned with the Enhancing Inclusive Excellence for NH Communities Initiative, these seed grants are designed to enhance New Hampshire’s capacity
to develop a talented, robust, and diverse STEM workforce capable of performing and thriving in a dynamic, knowledge-driven economy.
Priorities of the Seed Grant Opportunity:
·
New or enhanced partnerships between faculty at two-year and four-year undergraduate institutions to build research capacity in STEM disciplines.
·
Intentionally broadening participation of women and underserved populations in STEM undergraduate programs, including underrepresented minorities, first-generation
college students, rural residents, immigrants and refugees.
·
Integration of experiential learning, service learning or community engagement in STEM undergraduate programs.
·
New opportunities for undergraduates to participate in research programs.
·
New opportunities for community college students to collaborate with peers at four-year colleges.
Examples of activities that are consistent with the priorities include but are not limited to:
·
Multi-institution faculty teams revise curricula to include research experiences, service learning or community engagement within a particular discipline or across
disciplines.
·
Community college students engage in data collection, data analysis, sample processing or similar tasks integrated in a multi-institution research project.
·
Multi-institution peer groups engage in research experiences, service learning or community engagement.
