On Sunday I heard a loud ruckus of crows deeper into the woods at Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller NHP. I headed towards them expecting to find an owl or something. I was surprised to find at least 50, perhaps more, crows calling loudly and jostling for position in a stand of American Beech that was covered in nuts. They were eating the mast as fast as they could. They seemed to gently grab the seeds from the husks on the trees. I had never seen that before.
