Hey everyone,

This afternoon, with some nice weather and a little time to kill, I drove out to Woodstock to search for the Dickcissel that Kyle Jones had reported this morning (thank you Kyle!). When I arrived at the location, I met up with George Clark and Ed Hack, who luckily already were looking at the bird. The Dickcissel was pretty cooperative, allowing for some fantastic views. It was really neat to watch the bird foraging on the ground, feeding on the cork kernels. And nothing like observing a Dickcissel, White-crowned Sparrows, American Tree Sparrows, and Savannah Sparrows all in the same location, with Horned Larks calling in the background! Here are some of my digiscoped images and videos of the Dickcissel (in the videos you can hear us talking about the bird and the weather, lol!). An awesome bird and experience!
And a video of the tree sparrow:

While walking around the Woodstock floodplain near the wastewater treatment plant, I found a Dickcissel in the hedge under the power line. The bird was bright yellow on the breast, distinguishing it from just about anything else that is around now. It was fairly cooperative, giving me several good, close looks. There is public parking in the area, off Maxham Meadow Way, and fairly easy access to the hedgerow. I have posted a digiscoped photo of this bird at http://www.flickr.com/photos/32929658@N02/10556015914/
