A nice assortment of birds at Ledyard this morning, with a surprising amount of vocal activity and an actively foraging swallow flock of_>_35 birds that included all 5 species, with 3 swifts interspersed. Highlghts: Mallard 35 hen with 10 ducklings ~days old Double-crested Cormorant 3 Spotted Sandpiper 1 Chimney Swift 3 Eastern Wood-Pewee 1 singing Eastern Kingbird 2 Red-eyed Vireo 4 1 singing Northern Rough-winged Swallow 2 Tree Swallow 5 Bank Swallow 3 Barn Swallow 10 Cliff Swallow 1 swallow sp. 15 Gray Catbird 5 Cedar Waxwing 8 Black-and-white Warbler 2 1 singing Common Yellowthroat 3 1 singing American Redstart 2 Yellow Warbler 4 3 singing Song Sparrow 8 2 singing View this checklist online athttp://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S14852127 At Pompy Flats, an immature/eclipse Green-winged Teal and adult Bald Eagle were highlights. Water was very high, no flats exposed. At Campbell Flats, 2 Black-billed Cuckoos were countersinging.
